Rise and Shine, It's Pride Month!

As we kick off Pride Month 2024, I'm excited to start the day by reflecting on and celebrating the incredible diversity of Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and all other 2SLGBTQ+ identities.

Our community encompasses people of all races, ethnicities, abilities, ages, and walks of life - each with their own unique experiences, stories, and perspectives to share. This year's Pride theme of "Embracing Our Intersectionality" is a powerful reminder that our identities and struggles are inextricably linked.

A lesbian woman of color may face compounded discrimination, while a transgender individual with a disability may have vastly different needs and barriers compared to an able-bodied cisgender gay man. Recognizing and uplifting these nuanced, intersectional experiences is crucial to building a truly inclusive 2SLGBTQ+ movement.

Throughout the month, we'll be diving deep into the rich tapestry of queer identity - from the Two-Spirit traditions of indigenous cultures to the gender-expansive youth redefining what it means to be transgender. We'll explore the unique challenges faced by asexual and aromantic individuals, and celebrate the beauty and resilience of 2SLGBTQ+ families in all their forms.

And of course, there will be no shortage of incredible Pride events and celebrations happening all across Los Angeles this June! Some highlights include:

• "Pride is Universal" festivities at Universal Studios Hollywood on June 15-16

• The Trans Pride Festival on June 15

• The Catalina Island Pride Celebration on June 15

• Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite on June 18 and June 20

• Aquarium of the Pacific Pride Night on June 21

• SaMo Pride in Santa Monica on June 22

No matter where you fall on the LGBTQIA2S+ spectrum, there is a place for you in this vibrant community. So let's start the day by taking pride in our diversity, finding strength in our unity, and continuing the work towards a world where everyone can live freely and authentically.
